https://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/shop/vacuum-tubes

Dear Oliver,
On behalf of many HiFi interested people around the world, I hereby could suggest the old company Telefunken to produce tubes once again. just a joke
There is a huge interest for the high quality and long term reliability tubes from Telefunken such as EL84, EL34, EL156, ECC83, ECC82, ECC81, ECL85, ECL86 etc. , ever since Telefunken for more than 30 years ceased to produce tubes.
I think that the interest worldwide would be enormous! In my amateur site for tube amps, there have been more than 20,000 hits for tubes in the last 6 years, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.( no advertising at all)
I have been searching for the former Telefunken production tools which was used in Ulm, Germany, where tubes was made with a precision never surpassed by any company in the world, what so ever.
I had in mind that EHG Electroholding GmbH might know what happend with the Telefunken tube production line tools and the setup.
Just as a curiosity, the U.S. factory Western Electric has started production of WE300B again and the company now sells a pair WE300B audio tubes for around $ 400.
I doubt that Western Electric would have started production again without a guarantee of earnings.
I could imagine that a pair of the small Telefunken EL84 penthoder would costs in the area of $ 107 or more of todays prices, and that this tube type would have a market of a million customers if the Telefunken brand-mark was printed on the red / blue 5 piece pack. Please see attached picture:
If you are able to add any comments to find the old Telefunken tube production line or connected people to contact , then please let me know.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Sincerely yours
Kim Jul Hansen

Hello Kim,
nearly all of the Telefunken tube machinery was scraped as well as the documentations were thrown out in the garbage. While working at what once was Telefunken then called AEG-Daimler Benz, I pulled out nearly all
blue prints of the Audio tubes with the O.K. of my supervisor out of the garbage and since I started my own business I tract down whatever equipment and production material was sold off to other companies.
But there is no chance to get a tube production in the style of historic Telefunken plants going, because the market is so small that the initial investment would be never recouped.
Trying to revive the Glory of Telefunken would be similar to Mullard, GEC re-issues, not even worth it.
I visited the WE factory in Lee Summit/MO while it was still up and running, their tubes were not the same than the vintage ones and might sold for a bunch of money, but as far as I know they closed down the plant in 2005 or so and since them there in production going on anymore.
Best regards,
Oliver

Hello Oliver,
Thank you very much for writing back.
I need to understand you right....I understand ( very sorry) that nearly all of the Telefunken tube productionline machinery was thrown out in the garbage! ... AND that You have actually worked on the Telefunken factory , then called AEG-Daimler Benz?
How on earth could anyone accept to throw out all the documentation papers of the intire Telefunken tube-developement?
Oliver:
I worked in a different division of AEG, but had good contacts to the tube plant in Ulm and Berlin, visited them several times, I am still friends with the last few living tube engineers. During the time none wanted tubes anymore, but you might not have read my last e-mail proper, I saved all documentation, blueprints, production manuals on nearly all audio tubes.....
You have tracked down some of the Telefunken equipment for tube production from other companies and started your own company?
Are you able to produce tubes on this remaining Telefunken equipment, and did you save som of the documentation? This is history ...My wife, me and friends was in Berlin, stayed in Huttenstrasse side by side with the AEG turbine-factory this summer.
Oliver:
I have key components that I collect, but have no intention to make tubes.... The market is to small and the cost are to high.
I understand that the investment to reinstall the factory facilities would be rather large, but are you sure that the salesmarket would be small for a EL84 with the same quality and precision as the Telefunken EL84 made in Germany ?( not China or Russia with tolerances accepted by chinese or russian employes). 100 for one EL84 Telefunken NOS tube on Ebay is too much , but 50 for a new Telefunken EL84 made in Germany would be just ok!
Oliver:
The last time I consulted on making tubes again (with one of the name holders of Telefunken) the cost were estimated to $2.5 Milion to get something going.....
I am rather convinsed that the interest would be enormous worldwide, if we could keep the tight tolerances like the former Telefunken tubes!! ....but if all the know-how from Telefunken's engineers developement department are lost, I just have to say, that I am so very sorry that the knowledge is no longer available.
Oliver:
See above...
I work with precision in making contactlenses with the Boston Xo material and less than 1/100 mm tolerance in radius (curves) for keratoconus, and I really liked the same quality and accuracy of Telefunken products.
Please let me know a little more about your business and what you are working with?
Oliver:
Please check my company web-page : http://www.tab-funkenwerk.com, we make audio equipment based on the old Telefunken/Siemens studio equipment, (I saved all the production datat on those as well) also we manufacture audio transformer for other audio companies. I think we hold the largest collection of NOS Telefunken audio tubes in the US, if not in the world.
Best regards,
Oliver
PS. once in a while Telefunken documents show up on e-bay, like the EF183/184 production manual.... Bought it earlier this year.
PPS. The diamond bottom was first introduced in 1961/62, even after that not all Telefunken tubes had the diamond bottom, it time of high production Telefunken bought glass components from Philips.

Hi Oliver,
Your company and name are now on my amateur site :-) see: http://tubeamp.hobbysider.dk/
Citat: "I think we hold the largest collection of NOS Telefunken audio tubes in the US, if not in the world."
Do you keep the Telefunken tubes as a collection, or do you use the tubes in the studio equipment only?
Best regards
Kim

Hi Alan,
Thank you for your reply.
I looked at your homepage and you have a seriously good site and brand name to work with. The Telefunken name sounds good to the musicians ears, ....and to audiophiles as well :-)
A lot of musicians in Europe (as well as in US) likes the tubesound, and we have repaired some tubeamps during the years.
I know that this work with poweramps and high fidelity might be a little different from what you are doing, but I really like the quality of excellent electronic work, which you obviously are working with.
Thanks for the offer of questions to TELEFUNKEN Electroacoustics. I might come back to you with questions.
The best regards to you and T-funk.com

Hi Telefunken Elektroakustik, Connecticut.
Thank you for your info-site and that you mentioned the Namm-show in the Anaheim Convention Center , Ca. ( close to Disney resort)
You probably has more plus degrees in California than we have here in january, Denmark, :-)
I wrote a few words to Oliver Archut, TAB-Funkenwerk by email about the Telefunken history.....
and secondly because our local hi-fi society club constant wonders why Telefunken tubes after more than 60 years still holds the factory specifications.
I did not know that your companies had developement going on based on erlier Telefunken knowledge. I assume that TAB-Funkenwerk and Telefunken-Elektroakustik works as two different companies?
The best regards to you
