"The Monitor Audio ET500, a direct-drive unit made by this well known speaker manufacturer, and having a 2mm layer of lead sandwiched into the motorboard material for maximum isolation from unwanted vibrations, and a separate power unit to minimize mains hum. The motor were made by Matsushita- ie Panasonic/Technics."
"Having made something of a reputation in the field of loudspeakers, Monitor Audio have now introduced a new direct-drive turntable, the ET500, in which great attention has been paid to isolation from vibration. The plinth material consists of two layers of high-density particle board with a 2mm layer of lead in between. To avoid intermodulation effects caused by 50Hz vibration and hum from transformers and AC, a low-voltage DC motor is used, with the mains transformer housed in a separate module. The ET500 is supplied without arm, but mounting plates pre-cut for the SME or Formula 4 arm are available."
BAS pladespiller test i 1978:
"In a field of 75 turntables, one, the Linn Sondek LP12, ranks "very good" in overall sound quality and eleven ranked "good." These are the B&O 1902, 2200, and 4002, the Janorhurst JBE Series II, Micro Seiki DDX 1000, Monitor Audio ET 500, Revox B790, Sony PSX7, Strathclyde STD 305D, Technics SL 1000 MKII, and Thorens TD 126 MKIIl, assuming good choice of pickup and arm in each case, where this is not already included."
